There seems to be some issues with Where’s Gumbo? running on iOS4 that I will work to get resolved ASAP. Apologies to anyone who is having trouble. I’ll get the update out soon.

So, with the new 2.0 update of Where’s Gumbo?, you may have to remove the application from your iPhone by touching then holding your finger on the Gumbo icon. Once the “X” comes up on the icon, please hit the “X” to remove it. You can then sync your iPhone up with iTunes and re-install Where’s Gumbo? which will then allow you to play.

** this issue arose due to the fact that I had to rebuild my laptop with my Snow Leopard install and get a new Provisioning profile for my iPhone App development.

So I downloaded and installed the new iPhone 3.0 SDK and when I returned to developing my apps when I would make a change, then hit “Build and go” I would get this error in the organizer: “The application is already installed on the device”. I would have to manually remove the app from within the Organizer then hit Build and go again and it would install just fine and move on.
I noticed In the organizer Console tab this is what appears:
unknown mobile_installation_proxy[334] : preflight_application_install: The application has already been installed
unknown mobile_installation_proxy[334] : install_application: Could not preflight application install
unknown mobile_installation_proxy[334] : handle_install: Installation failed
So I went to iPhone Dev center and downloaded my provisioning …

The easiest way to have 2 (or more) domains point to the same Ruby on Rails app is to setup your first domain the same way you do for a normal implementation. I use Rails Machine for all my rails apps so I just follow the normal 5 minute deploying process they provide.
That sets up domain1.com. Now to setup domain2.com I ssh into my server. Navigate to my httpd conf files. Mine is located here:
>/etc/httpd/conf/apps
Then I copy my domain1.com conf file called domain1.conf and call the new one domain2.com.
I then edit this file and change any reference to domain1.com to domain2.com.
Save the file, then reset your httpd
>sudo /etc/init.d/httpd reload
and voila!

I submitted a new update to the team at Apple this past weekend so hopefully a new update will be sent to your iPhones/iPods soon.
Im hoping that this will help get Where’s Gumbo? ranked again in the Kids section of the App Store. I think with the release of the new iPhone 3G S, there are a ton new customers out there to reach. I see most all of my apps that I have installed are thinking the same. I had 7 updates ready yesterday for my iPod Touch.

A goal of mine is for “Where’s Gumbo?” to remain in the top 100 list of iPhone apps for the Kids subcategory of Games. We dipped out of the top 100 for a few weeks, but then released the newer version of “Where’s Gumbo? Lite” and crept back in at number 90 or so.
The ranking systems seem a bit arbitrary at times when our daily downloads are pretty consistent. My guess is that Apple still is working through some issues on the rankings and will get them all ironed out at some point.

I need to do something to generate some interest in “Where’s Gumbo?” so I have re-released the “Where’s Gumbo?” lite application. It is free and you can preview the full version by downloading the free one.
I am submitting an update to the free version to make the animals random. I just hope that people read the description before they download it so they understand the audience the app is intended for.
We will see!
